« on: Sunday 16 August 09 13:55 BST (UK) »
How would i go about finding where someone is buried? (im not sure which cemetry in hull UK where hes buried).
Ive found an albert e ellis died in hull 1939 (he had daughter alice ellis b 1908-1996 not sure where the family came from) i believe he could be my great great grandfather as im trying see find more info on the grave (incase its not him) before i purchase the death cert as im at a dead end.
Do they have store records of whos buried where? and can the public access them?.

Thanks
Becky

Unfortunately because there are so many possibilities such as churchyards, council cemeteries and cremetorium you need to know the death date at the very least.  The district where the person lived could indicate which council cemetery, for instance two of my relatives died in 1942;  one lived in west Hull and was buried in Chanterlands Ave cem. and the other died across the river in east Hull and lays resting in Hedon Road cemetery.

Heres a link which may help :-

Becky
most families would put a death notice in the local newspaper,(which will tell where the burial or cremation took place)and the local library might have these on microfilm, but as Rena said, you would need the date of death to search or you will have to go through all three months of the qtr he died in before you might find it.

I did look at your profile Becky to see if you lived locally as you will see on the link that there are indeed some films of council burials

... <<There are five main cemeteries within Hull’s boundaries. Hull General Cemetery was privately run by the Hull General Cemetery Company until 1972, when it closed for burials and the council took over its maintenance. The remaining four were created as municipal cemeteries and are still run by the council.

We hold burial registers on microfilm for each of them.>>
