I am trying to trace Helen Bruce (or Forbes) who married a Thomson.  She died in Elign in 1989.

Get the details from her death certificate. This should tell you her date of birth, name(s) of Husband(s) and full names of both her parents as well as her date and place of death etc.

You can order a copy online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, or you can get an Edinburgh-based professional searcher (cheaper) or a kind soul (cheapest) who is planning a visit to Register House in Edinburgh to transcribe the details for you. There are links on the Scotland's People web site to lists of searchers.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi

Have ordered the death cert from SP.  Its a sham that it can take up to 28days to arrive.  Will just have to be patient.
