Royal Sussex Regiment, India 1900s
« on: Monday 17 August 09 10:56 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I'm trying to find out information about my g grandfather, Arthur James Robinson. He served in India in the early 1900s. I know he married a Dora Ann Donnelly in Jubbulpore in Feb 1909 and they had two children, Clara Jane (b1909) and George Arthur (b1912).

On the marriage certificate, Arthur is listed as a widower - I wasn't aware he had married before Dora.

In Feb 1909 he is a Sergeant in the Royal Sussex Regiment.

W Kent is listed as a witness.

He went on to win the Albert Medal.

Any information on Arthur, the chiildren and especially his first wife greatly received.

Thanks in advance

Kathryn

Hi Kathryn

As you know about the Albert Medal are you aware that he transferred to the AOC, and that there is a medal index card on Ancestry (or on the National Archives site) under the Indian Ordnance Department? This says that his WW1 medals were issued by the Government of India, probably in 1922.

If he was still serving after 1920 his papers will be with the MOD. These should give you details of his first wife.
