James Knight B1871-D1891
« on: Monday 17 August 09 20:57 BST (UK) »
I am havng difficulty tracing birth cert for my gt grandad. He married Amelia Chamberlain in Thurlaston, Leicester 26/11/1891 Age 20 - Father William (Salesman).  He died accidentally 09/12/1891 Age 21 at Croft Stone Quarry. (My grandma  Annie Elizabeth born July 1892)  Leicestershire Record Office have not got inquest report. Aggregate Co not responded as yet.

The only 2 x James Knight born in Leicestershire 1871 I have found were rejected by GRO 'father not named William' A Jim Knight (10years) on 1881 census father not William either.

I'm thinking maybe he was not born in Leicestershire area as his father was a salesman, but don't know where to look now as there are loads. Maybe the local newspaper report for his death (but doubt his birth info will be included)

Any ideas/hel would be very appreciated.

N.B  This is my very first message so forgive my ranting on

Welcome

What a sad story, only about two weeks of marriage.

I wonder if this is him in 1891, just a few months before marriage?

No I have checked this one and ruled it out, they are on 1881 Census with parents John (not William) & Mary

...maybe not, as that leads back to RG11 3129 110 26 in 1881, with the 10 yr old 'Jim' and 13 yr old brother 'Sam' with father, John, an Ag Lab.

Have you ruled out the James Knight who in 1871 was a 1 yr old son (b Whitwick) of William Knight, a fish dealer (kind of salesman?) in Whitwick?

I wonder what dad, William, sold...
I see in 1871 RG10 3252 71 62, a William Knight fish dealer, with a wife Amey and numerous children, of which one is baby James. Born and living in Whitwick, Leics.

Was the quarry accident a workplace accident?  The Whitwick/Ashby de la Zouche  fellow seems to be a draper's assistant in Grantham in 1891, which doesn't seem immediately promising - but he does seem to disappear by 1901...

Witnesses to the marriage were Albert Chamberlain (Amelia's brother) and the mark of Sarah Davis ??

As James was 20 when he married in November and 21 when he died in December, I assumed he was born DecQ ish 1871, so born after 1871 Census
