1 Loughborough Rd
« on: Thursday 20 August 09 05:39 BST (UK) »
could anybody tell me what was at 1 Loughborough road, back in 1926?

After fossicking through many records, I have finally located my grandmothers birth record in her pre adoption name.  I have her mothers name and address, but my grandmother was born at Loughborough road.

Was this an unmarried mothers home or something else?

any help would be muchly appreciated.

Michelle.

Hi Michelle
In 1901 census 1 Loughborough Road West Bridgeford Nottinghamshire was the home of Robert Cordeaux, a medical practioner. 1901 census RG13   3161  52  39

Will look at 1911 this afternoon    Dinner time!!!!

Hi Michelle
Robert Cordeaux, medical practioner, is still there in 1911.
So your relative could well have been born there.

Hi

My Dad was born there on 8 Jan 1925. In those days I think babies were usually born at home but some women went to maternity homes and then 'lay in' for a week or two. The homes were fairly small and it wouldn't surprise me if 1 Loughborough Road wasn't a Victorian 3 storey house which are very common in that part of Bridgford.

It is in the area right by Trent Bridge Cricket Ground and near Nottm Forest football ground. There have been many developments around there and it is probably knocked down now.

I will look into it further because of my Dads connection and let you know if I find out.

Hi, the house could now well be a car sales place. I know there is one at the start of Loughborough Road, and also found this site.

http://www.westbridgfordhistory.org/heritageWalk.htm

Good map on  old-maps.co.uk     that shows the buildings before the car sales place.

thank you all so much for your help!!!!

I had looked on Google street map and knew that the house no longer existed.

As my grandmother was adopted, I thought it might of been an unmarried mothers home... a doctors residence.  It opens more questions, lol.  Her mum was 30 and unmarried, apparently kept her for 5 years.

Thank you so much all of you.

This is a great place for answering these obscure questions ;-)
