Lavingtons in Newport
« on: Sunday 23 August 09 19:07 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for birth details for Edith and Bessie Lavington for a friend. According to the 1881 census they were born in Newport, Monmouthshire.

RG11 Piece 1198 Folio 42 Page 11

Charles Lavington - Basket Maker - bn1844 Wiltshire
Caroline Lavington  - bn 1845 Dorset
(Charles) William Lavington - bn 1867 Woolwich
Laura Lavington - bn 1869 North Lane, Hampshire (Aldershot)
Ellen Lavington - bn 1871 North Lane, Hampshire
Edith Lavington - bn c 1872 Newport, Monmouthshire
Bessie Lavington - bn c 1874 Newport, Monmouthshire
Fanny Lavington - bn 1877 Yeovil, Somerset
Joseph Lavington - bn 1881 Ringwood, Hampshire

Obviously Charles was in the Army, certainly for the Woolwich and Aldershot births. Is or was there a Army base near Newport?

My only other clue, on GenesReunited there are two entries. One person who has replied to me, looking for both Bessie and Edith, has no further details, just those from the 1881 Census.

The other person has a entry for a Edith Lavington, born 1873 at Aber Gardning, Wales. Although he has read my request for information, I haven't had a reply to where Aber Gardning is, or if indeed it's the same Edith.

Any ideas please?
