Medical record ~ problem reading doctor's handwriting!
« on: Sunday 23 August 09 22:43 BST (UK) »
This is an extract from the medical record of my grandfather's brother. He served in WW1 having enlisted in the 1/8th (Irish) Battalion The King’s (Liverpool Regiment) at the age of 16. He fought at the Somme and suffered gas poisoning. He was discharged on 13.7.1919 ... and this record is dated 15.3.25. The after-effect of war took its toll, and sadly he eventually took his own life.

Apart from "Effects of Gas Poisoning" I can't read anything else that's written ... I imagine it's all technical medical terms?

Bestest,
Paula.

You might like to show it to an older doctor, who may be able to interpret it better.  Some of the terms may be specific to military doctors or contemporary to WW1.

Hope that's a help.

The quality of the doctor's writing is better than most prescriptions written today which are worse than awful.
There was a time ... not long ago .. when prescriptions contained a lot of latin which only other professions could understand.
Thank God for outspoken people like George Bernard Shaw who said;
"The professions are a conspiracy against the laity" and brought down a lot of that nonsense.
