GYPSYS  ~ WHERE THEY ORIGINATED FROM, WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE, THEIR DAY TO DAY LIFE. WITH THANKS

For this sort of wider Socio Ethnic background information, Bob Dawson's ye man.

For somewhere to discuss 'old families', have a look at Romany Jib.

For a whole shed load of stuff to keep ye occupied, there's the FFT site full of Links and such. More strongly inclined toward contemporary 'Gypsy Support' but, none the less, an absolute feast of leads.

 Get stuck in!  ;)

CURTIS (Portsmouth & 1800's Berkshire).
BURGE (Dorset, Somerset and Hampshire)
HUNTLEY (Dorset, Hampshire, Sussex, 'Surroundings')

If you are looking for genealogical detail on these families The Romany & Traveller Family History Society has just published "The Family Trees of Francis & Mary Clayton and John & Mary Booth" by Eric Trudgill, price £8 (I think). Check the R&TFHS website for further details.

Good luck

I'm a member of the Society & bought a copy at a meeting I attended in Notts at the beginning of July - maybe they are having more printed. As far as I know you don't have to be a member to purchase publications
