Agnetta,
I cannot find much and this is a little tenuous.

On 31 Aug 1869 John Whiteside married Mary Craig in Dungiven Presbyterian Church.

This couple lived in Eglinton and had the following children
Samuel James  born 12 Jun 1870
Samuel             born 13 Jun 1872
Jane                 born 5 Jan 1877

I wondered about brothers marrying sisters and Irish naming patterns.

PRONI Will Extracts show a John Whiteside, Gortlea died 1880- looking at index to civil registrations looks like he was probably born c1809.

Hi,
According to Griffith's John rented 114 acres in Gortilea and rented a house there to Samuel.

Hi. I have come across 2 brothers marrying 2 sisters a few times, and I think John(m'd mary) and William (m'd Isabella)may be a case too,but unless I can find Samuel and who he married and see if they at least 2 sons - John and William - I'l never know for certain.
I also think the John who rented the house to Samuel was probably son renting to father.
John and Mary's naming of their children would suggest Samuel James was called for his 2 grandfathers.(Did he die and next child got named Samuel? )
Aghadowey points out a will extract for a John bc 1809. The Samuel I'm looking for was bc 1804. Maybe John's brother???? All this is pure conjecture of course, without proof !!I have found a couple of Samuels bc the 1805/10 timespan, but in totally unrelated places. I know it's possible they came to Co Derry from somewhere else, but I think there's more connection to this area, before I can move "back" so to speak! Thank you both for your info.Agnetta.
