Joseph Horace Cotton
« on: Tuesday 25 August 09 10:22 BST (UK) »
Hi could anyone help me please.

Can't seem to find the death of Joseph Horace Cotton born 21-10-1889 in Salford.  His father was Jospeh Cotton 1861-1896 born Tunstall, Stafffs.

Joseph Horace Cotton married Eva Bausor.

Many thanks

Hello

Despite apparent evidence of a later birth, I think that the death registration in the first quarter of 1919 at Bucklow (GRO reference 8a 368) probably refers to this person.

If you have not already seen the death certificate for this entry, I recommend that you do so.

There were not many people born Joseph Cotton with a middle name of Horace between 1870 and 1901 .... in fact, I can only find the one.

The man who died in 1919 at Bucklow was called Joseph Horace Cotton and he was about the right age. Ergo, I think that it, almost certainly, must be him.

Despite apparent evidence of a later birth

There are actually two possible, later births for Eva ....

In the second quarter of 1927 at Manchester South there is a Joan Cotton registered with a mother’s maiden name of Bauser. The GRO reference is 8d 88

In the third quarter of 1925 at Manchester North there is a registration for a Kenneth Grant with a mother’s maiden name of Bausor. The GRO reference is 8d 881

Hi,

I did find that ref but was't too sure about it.  He is supposed to be my great grandfather but it would appear that he may not be as my grandfather was born in 1925.  This must be the hushed up business that we don't know about in our family.  My gradfather had copies of all certs for his mother and her side of the family but not for his 'father', despite him being dow as his father on the marriage cert.  I also cannot trace my gradfathers birth cert which adds to the mystery.

So I think I have a brick wall.  I was hoping that I would find a later death of a Joseph Hoarce Cotton......

Thank you for looking into this.

Regards from a very frustrated

ah ha!!  This may be a lead.  I have gone through freebmd for births in the last 2 quarters of 1925 for cotton and Bausor.

I have asked for a GRO search but I think I will order that birth cert for Kenneth Grant.  There are some vague stories of my grandad having a sister who was given away!!  Maybe, maybe...

How exciting.

A very greatful

Hello Selena

The staff at http://www.trafford.gov.uk/CommunityAndLiving/Registrars/CopyCertificates were kind enough to confirm that his middle name was Horace when my "assistant" enquired.

It might be fitting if you were to order the death certificate from them quoting the reference SA12/82 if you decide to buy it.

Thank you very much for your help on this.  I have ordered the certs.  I did try to do them from the link you sent but was unable to do it.

Hopefully these certs will provide the info I need.  Fingers crossed!!
