Samuel Wells and third wife Mary Smith ?
« on: Tuesday 25 August 09 12:44 BST (UK) »
Samuel Wells and third wife Mary.
They were to have two children, with Mary bringing a child, John Smith later to be known as John Smith Wells into the marriage.
1. Peter BC1839
2. Agnes BC1848
What became of Peter, Agnes and their mother Mary?

John Smith Wells as I have only just discovered married Isabella Chalmers
and had at least one child that I know of Samuel Smith Wells BC1850.
He found his way to Australia.

If you can enlighten me on any of these details  I look forward to hearing fom you.
Thanks
Jill

Thank You for all your entries regarding my questions, just fantastic too view these results.
From the entry listed for Samuel Smith wells on the 1861 census, as 8 months old born Middliebie... How do I go about finding a birth for him, or is this as close as it gets?

Hi Jill

There doesn't appear to be a birth or christening entry for young Samuel showing on the Old Parish Registers. His birth was before the start of official registration in Scotland in 1855. It may be that his birth was not regitered, or the register has been lost/destroyed over the years, always hard to say. Also, one of the main reasons why births sometimes don't show is if the family did not belong to the established Church of Scotland (Presbyterian). The OPRs are for records belonging to this church. If the family practiced under one of the breakaways or for example were Roman Catholic, it is neigh on impossible to find these records on line.

Further to my posting Re Samuel wells and his third wife Mary and their children can some please help me with information regarding Thomas.

Thanking everyone in advance for their replies to my query.

It appears Mary had another child Thomas Wells born 10th September 1832, father listed as John Thompson and this clarifies for me the fact that from the Middlibie inscriptions is listed under Wells, Thomas son of John, who was 34 when he died in 1851.

What did Thomas do up until his death, did he marry?or any other relevant info on Thomas would be great.

Mary, maiden name unknown at this stage was to have four children
1. John Smith b 29 May 1829; father James Smith
2. Thomas Wells b 10 September 1832: father John Thompson
3. Peter b 21 January 1840: father John Jardine
4. Agnes Carlyle b 28 August 1849 : father John
