Vicky
I think the Durham Craigs were a different branch of Craigs.
Thanks for your time

Thanks to Michael, I have inceased my Census results, but despite every spelling and variation, and even leaving out the surname altogether, I can't place George in 1841!
I supppose sometimes we just have to give up and put it down to the frustrating vagaries of the early census takers!

 Liz,

To help or to hinder ...??

Today i had opportunity to look into Castlegarth Presbyterian church records,
(Tyne and Wear Archives)

A job-lot baptism for children of Andrew , Cabinet Maker, and his wife, Ann Nixon in May 1816 ( I notice IGI has it as 9th.. ( it could have been 2nd... writing very difficult to read)

Andrew born 26 Mar 1808, St John's Parish, Newcastle.
Samuel b.18 Feb 1811, St Nicholas's Parish, N/C
George b. I read date as 6th April 1813 ( but wouldn't bet on it ! ) All saints Parish N/C.
Charles b.22 April 1815 St John's Parish, N/C

A job lot. I like it.
How kind and considerate of you to look those up for me.
Many thanks.
I have lately been put in touch with another of the Craig descendants - by a Genealogy site, and she had not got this far back, so I can share it with her.

 Liz,

I forgot to mention how interesting I found your baptisms.....

One of my incidental interests involved with FamHist is "places" mainly cos they were so different then than now, and can send us up garden path !

I was interested to see that whoever made those Presbyterian Baptism entries was particular to record the childen's birth places in terms of Angican parishes which had given their names to parts of city of Newcastle..

Castle Garth chapel itself lay within All Saints area, and two children were born with St John's parish area, one within St Nicholas's and one within All Saints.   None born within the fourth ancient parish of St Andrew's in the northern part of city centre.

Trivia Bit... google " castle garth flickr "   ( sorry cant do links) to see interesting photo on then/now.
