Scott,
The dates you are looking for are long before official BMDs had to be recorded. You will have to depend on church records, if they exist, so you will need to know which church. I had a look on one site for the Flax Growers register of 1796 and the only Scarlett in Ireland who applied was Robert Scarlett in the Parish of Clogher in Co Tyrone. This is close to FINTONA which I think you mean for Margaret's residence.

Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh

Thanks kingskerswell for your reply,

how do I go about, finding that out? Would I have to contact a town church directly?

And the Flax Growers register never heard of it before and does it have a website to search from?

Cheers

Scott

Scott,
You need to know which church. Many churches were not built until the early to mid 1800s for Presbyterians and mid to late 1800s for Roman Catholics and even if a church did exist it is rare for records to have lasted.
As for the Flax Growers Register, it was a register of all farmers who had land prepared for planting flax in 1796 and who could apply for a spinning wheel or a loom (depending on the amount of land) paid for by the government. The intention was to encourage the linen industry. Google
www.failteromhat.com and look under CENSUS/DIRECTORIES

There are links to information about Co. Tyrone church records in TYRONE CHURCH RECORDS & GRAVEYARDS stickied at the top of Co. Tyrone board-
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,366989.0.html
If the family were Presbyterian and lived in Fintona- Fintona Presyterian church (earlier known as Golan/Goulan) dates back to at least 1697.
There are other stickied topics at the top of the board- MAPS & LAND RECORDS, CENSUS RECORDS, LINKS (which includes a large selection of links to directories).
Flax Grower List for Co. Tyrone is here-
www.ulsterancestry.com/ua-free_FG_Tyrone.html
(it is listed on Ulster Ancestry Free Pages under LINKS).

Thanks aghadowey, kingskerswell,

For your help on this, its quite hard to track things down

So if i know her religion or daughters before she converted to Presbyterian from Methodist,

I should be able to the further more track down from the town / county / to narrow down a place to find the records,

As that would be the best way to go about it by the looks of it

Cheers

Scott

You don't need to track down a place to start with- you said in your 1st post "Faitona" which is Fintona.
The problem will be that it's quite likely any church records won't go back far enough to find Margaret Scarlett born circa 1793.
Am sending PM with name of Scarlett researcher that might be able to help.
