Help finding family
« on: Wednesday 26 August 09 08:50 BST (UK) »
Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help us. We are trying to trace what happened to our great grandmother Jessie Mackay Grant-Dalton and her daughter Mary Jessie Young, born 1913 in Balerno, Edinburgh, Scotland. We know that they sailed to SA in 1938 and indicated that it was to be their permanent residence. I just can't find out anything more about them and don't know what to do next. Can anyne help point us in the right direction please.

Thanks

Hello Youngatheart

Am sure that Ouma will come back to you, she is an absolute Supersleuth and a whizz on all matters, and especially on NAAIRS.

But, in case you are in a hurry, you can access N.A.A.I.R.S. online and enter JESSIE MACKAY GRANT-DALTON, in the Search section, preferably in the RSA search section.

But, as Ouma has already given you the required reference numbers needed, that's all you need, to email them and request copies of the Estate Papers.

Of course, by searching yourself you will find which would be the most appropriate email address to submit your request through.  All N.A.A.I.R.S. contacts, including email addresses, are of course to be found on one of their pages.

There will be a nominal charge for their mailing to you copies of the documents.

At the same time that you email them, request info on Mary, with all possible details that you can give for her, you may just be lucky. ;)

Cheers

Danchaslyn

Thanks so much for your time. I have emailed the Cape Town Archives from the contact details on N.A.A.I.R.S to see if they can send me the document. I gave them the reference number from Ouma so I hope they will get back to me. I have read mixed reports as to how sucessful these requests can be. Hopefully I will hear back and yes I will drop in the information about Mary Jessie as well. Thanks for all the advice.

Regards

youngatheart

Oh my goodness. I am truely amazed at what you have found for us and your amazing generosity of time. Thank you so much. We have just received the application forms to apply for copies of the papers so this is just all so fantastic. We even have a married surname for the daughter Mary Jessie. The way is truely open now. Thank you.
