From the dictionary of English surnames:

Ridealgh, and variations, Ridehalgh, Redihalgh, Reddihough, Reddyhoff, Readyhough

from Higher Ridihalgh (Lancs)

Wonder how the Lancashire place name is pronounced?

Keziah  :)

Added:- Ridihough as in cough! here's a useful link http://riddiough.com/id1.html

Hi,
I was brought up in the East Riding of Yorkshire and Riddyhalsh is how it was pronounced there too.

I first thought it must be part of Readiough (pronounced reddyiuff) etc but then thought of people I used to know called Greenhalgh - (haljh) so now would go for 'Riddyhalj'.

Hi. I'm new to the site with regard to forums etc.  I'm a Ridealgh by marriage. My husband is Steve Ridealgh born Lancashire his father was Alan from pool in wharfedale. I know from the family tree I am currently doing that two of his very distant grandparents were William Riddiough and Tabitha who married in wharfedale 1825.
Really interesting reading all the comments about family name of Ridealgh.
