Help please re birth record: William Hast WESTHORP birth c1796 in Harwich

Hi

Can anyone help me please?

My 3x gt grandfather William Hast Westhorp was born in Harwich about 1796  (ref 1851/61/71 census records).

I am unable to find his birth in LDS IGI or discover if Parish Records on CD or Microfiche for Harwich area are available.

The Westhorp family may have been non conformist, but I have no absolute proof of this.

If anyone could tell me if a CD or Microfiche is available for the Harwich area or could help in any way I would be most grateful.

Hi Liz,

Got on the website and found the dates required for Harwich PRs (1789-1794 & 1794-1808).
 
It's not possible to order microfiche on-line. You have to phone the contact number and be put through to the Archive department, tell them the code numbers required and ask for the relavant forms. They send you the forms by post (if the microfiche you require are in stock). No indication of price yet. Will keep you posted.

You can also email the ERO, there is an email address somewhere on the ERO site but if you can't find it let me know and I'll send it to you via PM.  If you give details of what you want to cover they will send a list and an order form by email but you have to send it back by post because a signature is required.

If the PRs are on micro film you will probably find that you are out of luck, last time I checked the ERO can only sell copies of micro fiche, still it's worth a try.

Bless you. Thank you so much for this information. This is the proof I needed to be sure my instincts were right - only the later children of Nathanial Westhorp and Elizabeth are available in LDS IGI.

Could I ask another big favour please?

A member of Ancestry has Nathanial Westhorp married to Elizabeth Hast in their Family Tree, the marriage apparently took place in St Nicholas, Harwich (3 March 1791). Is it at all possible for you to confirm this for me please?

Hi Chris,

Yes, the marriage is correct, the were both of the parish and the marriage was by licence. The witnesses were Mary WESTHORPE  and what could be Jms  GOLBE, unfortunately that signature on the fiche is not very clear, everybody signed.

You're a Gem!! This is brilliant news. Thank you so much for this and all the extra information.

I'm also searching for William Hast Westhorp's marriage to Hannah. Hannah was born in Suffolk (possibly Ipswich) so I'm not sure where the marriage took place. Their first surviving child, Hannah, was born abt 1820 in Harwich - two other children were born in Harwich before the family moved to Poplar E London - so I still have quite a lot of searches to do yet.

Could you tell me where you got your Microfiche records from please, as you can probably see, ordering Microfiche from Essex Archives is a bit like pulling teeth - they don't seem to have reached the 21st century yet.
