Earls Barton/Tebbutts
« on: Thursday 03 March 05 17:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello,My great, great grandfather Thomas Tebbutt was born in Earls Barton in 1843.I wondered if anyone could please help me find his father from the 1851 census.

I have a list of all the Tebbutts living in the village from the 1841 census and would love to trace back even further or find out any further information on the Tebbutts of the area.

Thanks.

Hi Kev,

Is this your Thomas?

NFHS 1851 index page 21b: (name/age/born)
George Tebbutt, 33, Earls Barton
Lydia Tebbutt, 29, Doddongton
John Tebbutt, 12, Earls Barton
Thomas Tebbutt, 9, Earls Barton
William Tebbutt, 5, Earls Barton
Hannah Tebbutt, 3, Earls Barton
Charles Tebbutt, 4mth, Earls Barton

He's the only Thomas Tebbutt in Earls Barton in 1851.

regards

Hi Marton. :)

George Tebbutt above is the furthest I have been back so far. There are quite a few Tebbutts in Earls Barton in 1841 so I would be interested to know George's ancestors or where the Tebbutt's came from prior to Earls Barton.

Hi Kev, if you are Kevin, son of Alan, g.son of Thomas, gg. of Wallace, all of Blaby,  ggg.son of Thomas,
then you and my husband share a common line of ancestoryfrom two brothers
b.1789 and 1796 in Earl's Barton.

Do you want to find out yourself?

With occasional clues from us?

Nothing worse than someone spoiling all the fun and frustration!

Happy New Year, Marton.

Happy new Year Marton. :)

Yes,thats me.

Being very new to this ancestry searching I dont really know how to go back further than the earliest census in 1841.I imagine its finding various parish records and such but I am a little lost so i would be thankful for any help you could offer me.

Thanks for the reply.

Kevin. :)

 Hi Kev,
Nice to hear from you. When I first started I was very lost. After the 1841 census, I went to Northamptonshire Record Office and looked at the Earls Barton records, which are quite good for E.B. There are transcriptions by a chap called David Gilroy which helped too.Because many of the Tebbutt families were strong Methodists, it was difficult to find more recent generations because of lack of access to b.m.d.
My husband's g.mother was a Tebbutt, and because he was born in E.B. , he was very interested in  them.
There are records kept in the 'Dolly Lodge', a teashop and small village records
room in E. B. and I found some useful things out there too.
George's father was, I think,

William Tebbutt   b.1789  E. B.
                            M. 1. Maria Rogers 1816
                            M. 2. Hannah Tomlin xx
                           d. 1869 E. B.

William's brother was George b .1796 .

They had 5 siblings.

Are you able to get to Northampton to look?

Best wishes,Marton

Hi Marton,
Thanks for that.

Actually I've been planning to go to Earls Barton for a while now if only to look at the church and graveyard and was looking at the map and their website last week.I will hopefully go within a few weeks if I can.

One thing I would be interested in if you have the information is where this line of Tebbutts came from before Earls Barton.

Thanks alot
Kevin.
