George Brown b1840-50
« on: Monday 31 August 09 20:25 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a George Brown born sometime between 1840-1850, his father's name was Elijah Brown occupation: farmer.  I have him on Census 1881 living 19 Henwain Row, Aberstruth, Blaina, Bedwelty Monmouthshire saying he was born 1841 Linton Herefordshire, in 1891 Census for 128 Abertylery [Abertillery?] Road, Aberstruth, Blaina, Bedwelty Monmouthshire he says he was born 1840 Newent Gloucestshire, in 1901 Census: 128 Abertillery Road,  Aberstruth, Blaina, Bedwelty Monmouthshire he says he was born in Astringham, Somerset.  I have searched records but cannot find where he was born and who he was married to before he married Maria Pugh 11 August 1874 in Parish Church Llanhileth, Wales, I have the marriage cert but gives address as Llanhileth.  Can anyone help?
regards Trish

I think you'll find that the 1901 census gives his POB as Hereford Aston Ingham (the enumerator has written it as one word).

Newent, Linton and Aston Inham are all pretty much in the same area (Linton is 2 miles from Aston Ingham and Newent is 3 miles from Aston Ingham), so at least you can narrow the search down slightly!!

According to Genuki, Aston Ingham was enumerated as part of Newent for 1851 census

One to perhaps put on the backburner is a George Brown on the 1871 census who gives his POB as Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, but is living as a boarder in Parsons Row, Aberstyuth.  He also appears to be a widower (although frankly, the scrawl could be anything!)

HI, yes he was married before he married my great x3 grandmother Maria Austin nee Pugh.  What I cannot seem to find is his birth and first marriage.  I wont disregard the Aberstruth thing as that is the right area.
