Evan Rees is not in Morriston cemetery - Rob is going to check Cwmgelli and get back to me on Monday.  :)

Thanks for looking Bev.

Fingers crossed he will be in Cwmgelli! :)

I don't think that cremations were very common in Swansea in 1927, - but perhaps a headstone is too much to hope for...(?)

Sorry Romilly he's not in Cwmgelli either, so I suppose he must be in a Churchyard somewhere in the area.  ???

I must say, your lot are very good at hiding.  ;D

Many Thanks for looking Bev. Its very kind of you.

How frustrating... ::) ::)

Yes...they do seem to be very good at hiding :'( I've never been able to find out where my Grandparents are buried...& never been able to find any Birth Entry for my Grandfather either:-(

And so I was getting quite excited at the thought of finding Evan Rees, - but it seems as though its not to be :'(

Were people cremated in Swansea in the 1920's? I had thought that cremations were much later than that...does anyone know?

Romilly.

Cremtion became legal in 1902. The crematorium at Swansea opened in 1956.

Thanks for that Bernard. On the basis of that...I don't imagine that Evan Rees was cremated in 1927 then. I have no idea where he might be :'(

Well I haven't given up yet. I'll certainly have a search in Clydach (St John's) for you. I tried the "Western Mail" today for a death notice and there wasn't one there either - so frustrating, because if you had that then obviously we'd know where he is.  ::)

Thanks for all your help with this Bev, - I really appreciate it.

Why on earth can't it say on a Death Cert where they were going to be buried? ::) ::)

I've got the Death Cert out to look at again...The Informant is Evan Rees's son George Rees, a Painter & Decorator, (born 1868) who was present at the death. George's Address is 43 High Street, Clydach. (I've done a google search on this address, & it seems to be a Post Office now).

Not being familiar with Swansea...I'm wondering if this was near to Evan Rees's Address? And I'm also wondering whether, as the Informant, he might have arranged his father's burial somewhere that was convenient for him? This is just speculation really!!

Yes, the 2 addresses are quite close, but exactly how close I don't know until I've found Brynforgan House (which I will look for as soon as I have a chance). In any case, St. John's is not far from either.
