Hi David

There are a few anomolies in here, and my advice would be to consider whether or not you are dealing with two different families....

John/David
Leith/Balerno
Mariner/(Balerno was primarily paper making and farming).

I speak as one who confused two marriages between identically named couples from Leith and Currie.

Hibee
Midlothian: Adam(s), Meikle/Muckle
Leith: Bridges
Edinburgh: Brown
Prestonpans: Bird, Inglis
Fife: Wemyss
Orkney: Brock
Ireland: Sweeney

Many thanks Hibee for taking the time to reply.  Two great minds think alike!  I've considered that I might be looking at two families, however, I've found a couple of census records that I believe belong to the correct Browns.  I still need to confirm the names on the censuses with birth/death records, but I think I'm on the right track, finally.

Thanks again, David.

I am not sure that this will be of any use for you.  but here goes.
1894 births  GROS 685/01 1935
David John Brown b. 10/11/1894  1.15pm
Residence: 14 Hawthorn Bank? Edinburgh
Parents William Brown - Stone Cutter and wife Ann Brown/ ms.Brown

No, John Brown Seaman was married to Margaret Brown or ms Scott
and they named their son  John

Have checked 7 John Browns so far about 2 more to go.

No, the other information I have was the marriage of the above and the birth on their son/s
