'Fat Chance'? .... but nothing ventured, nothing gained
« on: Wednesday 02 September 09 17:22 BST (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters ......... this is an extremely long shot but as I say above ........... nothing ventured etc ..........

So what chance is there that someone out there in Australia has an ancestor who was shipped off to Aussie in 1918/1919 because he had gotten himself into a bit of a fix round about Nov/Dec of 1917 in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshsire, England the consequence of which is that no living relative knows the identity of my late cousins father.  My, then very young (18) Aunt gave birth to her son in August 1918.

What would you say folks ......... 'fat chance' ...... forget it?  ...... but there's always hope  ??? isn't there  :'(  Anyone got any ideas???

Oh dear me  I  feel we are very good  at finding people in Oz but  without a name, age, parents etc.................... ::) ::) ::)

Ok, I  guess no  father was named on  the birth certificate?

Hi Jenn ...... noooo, no such luck. Hopless case huh ???  I was just hoping, against all the odds of course, that someone had an ancestor that left the UK under a cloud whose story handed down to their descendants ah well ........ ;D

Wow isn`t that great. ;D

No doubt Cando or Jenn will be able to help you now that you have a name. Sorry but I`m hopeless with Victorian records. I just have access to Tasmanian records.
Yes the Australian National Archives Site is great.

Hi Polly,

sorry about the cat ;D

Just letting Jenn  know that I have had a look about and even though I have no experience with Victorian records I think I may have found a clue to who Gilbert Grant married.
Try Ila Elsie Holden in 1928. I may be wrong of course but worth a try.
