"Station??" - any ideas?
« on: Thursday 03 September 09 10:36 BST (UK) »
I have a marriage certificate with a fathers occupation which states quite clearly 'station' then a bit of a squiggle or a smudge so it could be a longer word, but definitely not two words like station master or anything railwayish.  I think he was in the forces, so was it usual to write 'stationed' when they were perhaps out the country??  Why not just write the rank or 'Soldier'??

Any help much appreciated.

What country are you in ali, and what date is this?
Any chance you could scan the the certificate and cut & copy the bit with the writing?

No it wasn't WH Smith - but you could be right with Stationer! - just found him on a Canadian Census 1871 and he was a paper bag maker!  Thanks for the hint!
