Wanted : Places to obtain acid free stuff
« on: Sunday 06 September 09 18:02 BST (UK) »
I'm sure there have been other requests like this but I 'm not sure where to look on here.

Do any RootsChatters have suggestions as to where is best to buy acid free paper, charts, files, poly covers etc etc?

Thanks

Local Family History Societies may have either a supply they will sell --to members but perhaps to you as well but if not ask them where they get theirs from.
Have you tried Yellow Pages? there may be something there. I must say I have not looked but it is possible a good stationers may stock these items. Best of luck. Viktoria.

I tried Google for acid free files and didn't get much.
never thought of the fhs. And of course, being less tired and able to think better <g> , I think I'll ask at the Local Studies Centre.

Thanks Viktoria.

Hi Morganatoo  :)

Firstly a word of advice (I always bang on about this  ::)  ) - beware of the term "acid free", it doesn't always mean that it is archival quality.  Archival or conservation grade materials are the ones you want.

Here are a couple of threads which might have useful information for you:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,286501.0.html

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,307754.0.html

Where do you live?  There are conservation suppliers in most countries so if you let me know where you are, I can give you a website or two...

Cheers
Prue

I think there's 'acid free' and 'really acid free' as I suspect Prue would agree.   Archive acid free is more acid free than plain acid free !
