When did your Leggetts come out here to Australia, you wouldn't have a Samuel b abt 1836 father Edward Leggett mother Elizabeth, from Suffolk area.

John LEGGETT, born 1793 Wenhaston, died 1873, Beccles, Suffolk.
Son of his William, born 1821
His son William 1842, born Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

William 1842 went to NZ. My Mother was a Leggett

Sue is on the right track I am sure.
I had looked earlier for the baptism of a James Leggett around the same time as Matildas birth. Often parents and grandparents first names are used on subsequent children born to a couple.
I found the following christenings and noticed the similarity of THROWER/THURLOW

Parents JAMES Leggett and Anne THURLOW

They were all christened same day as James
Must have been a 4 for 1 price special

I am posting this which I had actually saved for my Leggetts.
This was always to me a possible brother of my John Leggett.

This is the only James/Ann combo I could find although occp is wrong.

I have been unable to find Matilda in any Census

I think the Leggetts are in Wickham Skeith in 1841, minus Ann and Matilda, maybe Ann had died by then. David and Lydia are in the household.

Looks like the same James in WS in 1851, born Gislingham.
