Hi there. I have been trying to find the marriage between Sydney Harold Bruton and Lilian Price approx 1900 in Durban South Africa. His father was James Edward Bruton. They had 3 children in Johannesburg between 1903 (Edward valentine b 14 Feb), Winifred b 1906 and Kenneth 1909.

Many thanks.

Hi

My Great Great Grandfather, John Henry Hunt Rich married a  lady called Gerindina, Wilhelmina Hendrina Ross on January 6th 1879 in Cape Town. I don't know if they married in a church or if it was a civil marriage. I do know that they were both widowed.

Also, my Great Grandfather, George Rich, was born in Capetown in 1866.

If you could shed any light an either of these I would really appreciate it.

Thank you
Bevan (South West Wales).(Tucker (Devon). Quick (Devon & Tredegar). Rich (South Africa).

Hello there,
I live in the UK and am descended from 1820 settlers to SA. In doing my tree, I found that my g/grandfather Thomas Reid ( from scotland ) married Amy Harrison in 1888 in Cape Province.
I have never discovered anything about Amy Harrison. I have recently recieved information from Tasmania about an Amy Harrison who found her way to SA and died 31-5-1906 at Inkwells near Majuba Hill. She is burried Newcastle SA. It is assumed that she married but her married name is not known. I wonder if it is possible to check for me, is this my Amy Reid?
Would greatly appreciate any help on this and please let me know if there is anything I could help you with in the UK.

Re: Records lookup South Africa --- Offer De Fries

Hi Ukmilo,
I have just found your offer for SA.
My Gr Grandfather Ulrich Gustav Ernst De Fries. came from Germany and married an english woman Alice Jane Scott in Joburg Abt 1900 +- They lived in Gordons bay CT ,had 3 kids . I have his death notice and estate papers. I calculate birth about 1873. Died 1939 in CT.
It says on the death notice that he was a Naturalised Union Nationist which probably means he took on SA citizenship. I would like to know more about U G Ernst De Fries(sometimes also Ernst Fries De) where he was born( Hamburg it says but I find nothing on German sites.) Found his name on passenger List but as I have no access, I dont know dates or details. I was wondering if there is something in the archives. Maybe naturalisation documents.
I dont know if you can find anything on Alice Jane Scott (De Fries) either .I would appreciate your help as I know SA archives are almost impossible to access from overseas.

What a generous offer!  I would be interested in finding out some more about the marriage in Cape Town in either 1864 or on 31/10/1866 (have conflicting reports) of Rev. William Bassett Powell (b. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, 1835) and Sybella Flora Conway Harris (b. 1848 - Cape Town?).  I have an idea Rev. William was a missionary, as after their marriage, the couple travelled to India where their two children were born.

Anything further on Sybella would be a bonus; - I have her father as George Anstruther Harris, and her mother as Fanny Gahagan, and I am aware of ten siblings and half-siblings (George A. married 3 times but I have no idea where - all the info I have is from "The Peerage").

Thank you very much :)
I live in Sydney, Australia, and I'm researching: Powell, Tatham, Dunbar, Dixon, Mackwood, Kinnear, Mitchell, Morgan, Delves, & Anderson

I believe that my uncle  Arthur Hughes estimated DoB 1913  who was a sailor in the Merchant Navy is buried in Capetown.
As far as I know he developed Appendicitis while at sea, he was taken to Hospital in capetown ( I believe)  whether he was Dead on Arrival  or whether he was treated and died anyway, I just do not know.
I believe the date of death was circa 1933, but I may be wrong.

I have looked on the  Merchant Marine Deaths at Sea register, but have had no luck in finding him.
