Hi ajcajc

That was an interesting read.  There's been a lot gone on since I looked!

Ken, your input on the army was fascinating and gave me a lot of ideas for myself.

Just a couple of thoughts:

I hope I'm not repeating here.  There's quite a bit to read for late at night!

Di you have the 3eath certificate for Charles?  That should give you his age.  In fact the index should give his age, even without a certificate.

That will give the year of birth near enough.

As far as the older father is concerned, there is certainly at least one instance of a father as old as this in my tree.

Also, if you look for records of the various descriptions given for all of the siblings, you may well find some, and even some biographical data, even if you found nothing for Charles. Do you know if any family were killed in the war?  They would be on CWGC site, and also the Soldoers killed disc in the library.  You might get some hints.

Not the most  usual ways, but when you're short on evidence you have take what's going.

By the way, do you know whether there are any gravestones which might have clues?

Best wishes

HI Emma

As you say a lot has fone on since you were last able to be with us.  I've been trying to help Andy in the background and he has decided to obtain the death cert of his grandad Charles.  As you pointed out it does give an age to which does match up with bit of known info Andy gave us in the beginning.

I'm sure Andy will post his own reply later in the day.

Hi Andy and Wendy.

Thank you for all the feedback!

Sounds like a good move.

I certainly would feel better with an exact original document with certain information in my hand.  I love the feeling as well, no matter how quickly or otherwise I progress, that's for sure, and a kind of link to the person.

I hope it's fruitful Andy.

Good luck!
