A few years ago is was owned by ancestry.com.  If you owned a copy of Family Tree Maker then it offered to put your tree on a website which means it ended up on genealogy.com.  Then ancestry and many other affiliated companies were bought by myfamily.com.  In 2007 everything was bought by The Generations Network (TGN).

I presume the cost is membership of ancestry.com?

If you do a Google search for: genealogy.com

Then click on the first link and it will direct you to ancestry.ca.

Any link will direct you to ancestry.ca so the two are definitely affiliated.  If you are on the ancestry website then it implies you have access to the records and data on genealogy.com.  Therefore you are indirectly a member of genealogy.com.  You could send ancestry.ca an email to confirm this but that is my understanding of the situation.

Hi

If you go to your Ancestry home page and scroll down to the bottom right you should see a box which would have, in my case, Ancestry.co.uk. Alongside are little up and down arrows which open up to list the various Ancestry sites. Amongst these is Genealogy.com
