sadly, it wont recognise Hackleton - but you can enter the PIECE, Book, Folio & page at the bottom of the advanced search options frames.

Richard/Passed Master, I was looking at the original village images.  :)

Richard as we both know Hackleton has no C of E so they toddled
off to Piddington.

Piddington had no shops so they toddled off to Hackleton.

Some even ventured as far as Horton.  :)

I can not remember if Penholder has Hakes also in her tree.

Hi Everyone

I'm just catching up on what has been going on since I went away and yes, Sandy, I certainly do have HAKES in my tree!   I've been trying to follow up all the descendants of Thomas HAKES & Tabitha PEARSON to 1911 as well as those of Thomas and his first wife, Sarah PELL.

I'm also working my way backwards with the HAKES line.   That's going less successfully as Thomas HAKES' father, also called Thomas HAKES, seems to have materialized in Piddington out of nowhere.   Any help with his baptism/birthplace would be very welcome.

Many thanks to you all as I hadn't spotted that I didn't have Job's details for 1841.

Regards,

Diana

Hello Penholder,

I have found this in the births index:

Thos HAKES s Thos Eliz 1781 15-Apr Piddington C of E.

It looks like they also have another 5 children as well.

There is this marriage in Piddington from the NMI:

Thomas HAKES otp Elizabeth LEBATT otp 1780 16-Feb Piddington C of E.

What do think?

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard

It's this Thomas HAKES, who married Elizabeth LEEBATT on 16th February 1780 whose baptism I can't find.   I'm sure he & Elizabeth are the parents of the Thomas HAKES who married Sarah PELL and then Tabitha PEARSON.

I have another 5 children for the marriage too.   Also, Elizabeth LEBATT had an illegitimate daughter called Dorithy, who was baptised at Piddington on 21st June 1776 and buried there on 11th May 1778.

Elizabeth HAKES was buried at Piddington on 21st October 1825, age 78.   If her age at burial is correct then she was born c 1747.   The closest baptism I found was for Elizabeth LEBAT, daughter of James & Martha, on 7th May 1752 and I think this is probably her.

Last time I went through the Piddington registers I was mainly looking for HAKES family members although I was looking out for Elizabeth.   I was aware of so many inconsistencies in the spelling of LEBAT, including variations on LAYBACK, that I wasn't sure if it was just one family or two separate ones.   I came round to thinking it was the same family but simply didn't have the time to go back and start all over again.

So, I made a note to myself that next time I would copy down all the many and varied LEBAT/LEEBATT/LAYBACK etc entries.   The summer has been so busy that I just haven't had the time for another visit yet.

Regards,

Diana
