Hi everyone,
thanks for all your help (topic above)
I found the grave for my great grandmother at King Cross Methodist Burial Site thanks to the help of Melia's for the grave number and everyones advice on here, because if I hadnt googled key words in the first place then this forum would have never been known to me and its a great forum. In particular I would like to thank Drewhowson, what a remarkable man he is!
It transpires that my great grandmother is burried in the same grave as two of her sons, daughter in law, grandson and great nephew, and none of the relatives left i.e 3 grandaughters knew this. The headstone was replaced in around 1963 by my mothers mother and it seems that the info must not of been known as my mother seems certain that her mother would not have ommited these details from the headstone on purpose.

The grave was known to us and i found this a few years ago, however the missing part of the jigsaw was that we did not now my greatgrandmother was here too, so I was extremely surprised when Dewhowson sent a map and description of where the grave was from the grave number I had given to him as recorded by Melias. Even when I returned to the grave on Sunday I still expected the directions to lead to another grave, thinking "she cant possibly be at the same grave and no-one knew"
So my thanks go to each and everyone of you for all your help. I now need to find out whether a name can be added to a headstone and to what cost and what permissions are required.  :-\

Hi Nugirl.
it maybe the cemetery office that deals with requests about adding headstones and inscriptions etc.

That is the case in a  Lancs cen where I made similar enquiry.  The office may also tellyou the stone masons familiar with the cemetry's rules on this.

This just shows that the burial records need to be consulted as well as seeing the headstone. Thanks for pointing this out Nugirl and well done for finding your g gran's last resting place.
Have you considered that there might have been a fall out in the family, it seems unusual to replace a headstone, Kerbstones are often added when there is no room for a further inscription.
Permission for inscriptions can only be granted to the next of kin or with their written permission.

If anyone can help locate a grave in the Methodist church it would most helpful.
Three internments in plot 125F
Mary Williamson in 1945, husband Matthew in 1950 and son Ewart in 1979.
Tried to find it last year with no luck.
Their granddaughter is now 80 and would like to know where it is.
Thanks

Hello Tiggercat,
The section you are looking for is below and to the left of the Chapel, right next to Wainhouse Tower.
Go down the path between the old chapel and the graveyard, and when you get to the bottom, cross the lane and bear left down the slope into section F.it is overgrown at first, then all the graves come into view, the rows etc are numbered from the far end, nearest Wainhouse Tower.
The grave is on the 10th row up from the tower end, and 9 in the row.
The first grave on the row you are looking for is a Webb grave, the graves on either side of yours are,Stott on the path side and Bridge on the far side.
If you need any more help get back in touch,
Regards,
Andy

Andy
Thanks for that. We did go into the lower part, but with unguided searching we got no results. It may be there is no marker. We are visiting again in mid September so with your directions, will have another look.
Matthew Williamson was an Alderman of Halifax, so would be surprised if there isn't a marker of some sort.
Cheers
Roger

How was the access ?
Is there a marker to find, or just a space ?
Cheers
