'Wanky' Byrne, Dublin.
« on: Monday 14 September 09 18:22 BST (UK) »
Desperately trying to narrow down a search for a Denis Byrne in Dublin  born c.1900 (hundreds of 'em). I know he had a brother Thomas/Tommy and a sister known as 'Wanky'. Does anyone know what this is an abbreviation or slang for?

Many thanks
Byrne, Stapleton, Kennedy, Dougherty, Clishan/Clisham. Easter 1916 Dublin, in Ireland.
Sharp, Houlgrave, McCarrick, Quinn, Dougherty in Liverpool.

Yip, thats the one I'm pinning my hopes on - but will need to confirm if 'Wanky' is a slang name for Eileen, Bridget or May? If not, then this isn't it, if yes, it will help towards confirmation. Hopefully, there aren't any other Denis Byrne's in census with similarly named sisters! Thanks for the look up and for posting, much appreciated.
