Hi Lisduggan

Attached is a link from Griffiths Valuation, the last name Edward Cooney is listed as living in Catherine Court, just off Catherine Street in Waterford City

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&familyname=Cooney+&firstname=Edward&baronyname=&countyname=WATERFORD&unionname=&parishname=&Submit.x=42&Submit.y=14

If you can't follow the link, google griffiths valuation and in the name search put in Cooney Edward and the Parish is Trinity Without (Detached Portion) that should give you the map of the area

I had a look at Slaters Directory of 1881 and could not find a Thomas Mahoney in Catherine  Court.

Are you related to the o' Mahoney family that lived in Reginalds Tower, Waterford City, in the early 20th century?.

Peares garage (later Kellys) was built on part of Catherines Court in Catherine Street.
