If it was in Ireland you would need to search for church records and I suspect that this will also be the case in England but someone familiar with the local sources will probably be able to give a more definite answer.

It may be at the LMA (not sure that it covers West Ham though!)  -  can't see any on the IGI

I think you will find the Essex Record Office hold records for East and West Ham. does all depend where as Vestry House also hold some records
