Scarborough Pals Battery WW1
« on: Saturday 05 March 05 16:33 GMT (UK) »
My Great Grandfather John William Tymon (below) was in the Scarborough Pals Battery during WW1.  Does anybody know anything about the Pals Batterys in general or the Scarborough one particularly?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Casalguidi

Thanks for saying that - much appreciated.   :D

I think its a great photo too.  Left to right My great Uncle Edwin Tymon, My great grandma  Daisy Tymon (Sedman) who I remember visiting as a young boy, John William, and my granddad William Tymon.  Everyone says I look very much like John William, though you probably can't tell from my caricature?!  ;D

Glad you liked it.

Best wishes

Hi thought I might be able to shed some light on the subject. It all hangs on wether you can tell me what regiment he served in. The cap badge resembles the Royal Artillery and unfortunately the Green Howard's the local regiment as well of which I had three great great grandfathers serving in ww1. The Green Howard's were made up of mainly Territorials until war broke out when they managed to raise more battalions. This could be the Scarborough Pals connection. However he whole battery bit could be the down fall. Do you know His regiment ?

If he did serve with the green howards this sit might have some info

Hi Will

Thanks for making contact.

I have a document which refers to John William Tymon headed "161st (Yorks) Bde RFA Corps" if that means anything to you.

It would make my year if you could shed some light on this one.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again

Hmm. I'm having problems finding it. there are war graves assigned to men who were in the same unit But appart from that its hard to find any other mentions. I would of expected to find the unit in the 50th Northumbrian division the local one to Scarborough but they have their own assignment of Royal Field artillery the 250/1/2/3/4. Hmm ill keep looking but it seems near impossible to find it by internet.
