Gosling, Johnson and Marsland: Hazel Grove
« on: Saturday 05 March 05 16:43 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone else researching these families in the Hazel Grove area?  Several were connected to the silk weaving trade until it all went pear-shaped due to cheap imports post-1850.  My bunch were Methodists, and some at least attended Bullock Smithy Methodist chapel.  Does anyone know where they might have worshipped before the BS chapel was founded?

I don't suppose you've come across the Weaving family in Hazel Grove?
Come to a complete standstill with them.
Last one is Jack Weaving 1918/20 Stockport.

No Weavings linked to my family at present, but I'll look out for them - Like you, I'm stuck on these lines until I can get hold of parish records.   ::)

I have a Fred Gosling m Ann Williamson - no actual dates.

Estimate on time frame - born 1870-1880 married in the early 1900's.

Stockport features in Williamson's lineage from the early C19th

No obvious link to my family, I'm afraid - in a branch I haven't been able to connect, there's a Fred Gosling b Stockport 1889 (son of Walter Gosling and Margaret née Magee), but that's probably a bit late for yours.

From Cheshire BMD http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/

Fred GOSLING m. Annie WILLIAMSON, Thomson St Baptist Church, Stockport, 1907.

I've just started researching the Marsland family tree. My Nana, Lucy Marsland was from Hazel Grove in Stockport. I managed to get alot of names from her before she sadly passed away so I've got a good ground base to start on if you want to compare notes? Kat :)

My direct link to the Marslands is Alice MARSLAND, b. c1783 in Bosden (now Hazel Grove) - she married Thomas JOHNSON at St Mary's Cheadle on 2 Jan 1803, and was buried in St Thomas Norbury churchyard on 7 Sep 1854.

I haven't been able to take Alice's line any further back unfortunately - does she tie in with your family anywhere?
