You're right - William and Emma's marriage is on the LDS pilot site http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/

James Henry GOSLING (son of James GOSLING) married Emma Elizabeth REYNOLDS (daughter of Edwin John REYNOLDS) on 27 Oct 1896 in Norbury.

Also their children's christenings at Norbury:

James Edwin - 14 Nov 1897
William Naphtalie - 29 Mar 1899
Jack - 11 May 1902

That's an unusual middle name - all mine stuck to plain William, Thomas, Mary, etc!

Oops, sorry - copying error on my part!  (Now corrected above).  The marriage entry says James Henry, not William.    ::)

Hi
Not sure if anyone still uses this board, but I think I may be related to James Edwin Gosling and would be keen to know more?

Not been here in a while, just got email alert.
I can take a look at the family tree I made if there's something you want to know. It is mostly accurate as far as I know.

Well actually I know very little about the Goslings! James Edwin Gosling is (possibly) my grandfather. Unfortunately the "story goes" that the Goslings disowned James when he married my german grandmother at the end of WW2, so very little is known about them!

My knowledge is also limited. But that's not a story I've heard before. I know the family owned or ran the Cock Hotel in Hazel Grove. One of them was apparently sent to Australia for shooting someone. Assumed it would be James or Jack, as William N, my great-grandfather died in the war.
I'll take another look tonight and see if I had any other info on James I've forgotten about.

Oh gosh lol!
Well James served in and survived both WW1 and WW2 and was stationed in Germany at the end of WW2, where he met granny!
As I said, the family weren't too happy about this and I don't believe they spoke again!
Sadly James had a major stroke not long after, and so was never able to tell my father about his family history.
It is possible of course that it is a completely different James Edwin Gosling, but the date of birth and area seems to match!

I've just gone on one of the links above and seen that James E was previously married to Mabel Marples. This makes sense as we believed he was previously married before he met my grandmother.
I wonder what happened to poor Mabel?
