1841 - ROBINSON
« on: Tuesday 22 September 09 13:19 BST (UK) »
Hi All!

In the 1851 census a clever rootschatter found the following entry for me

HO107/2385  121  48&49
Byers Green, Durham
Tod Hills
Ralph Robinson, head 28, farmer and butcher, b Eighting Banks
Isabella, wife, 24, b Northumberland, Newburn
Mary Ann, dau, 10mo, b Tod Hill
Mary, sister, 18, b Hetton
+ 3 farm labourers and a house servant

What i am hoping to find now is a family for Ralph and his sister Mary in the 1841 census - are those records available?

Ralph married in about 1850

The only reference i have to his sister Mary is in the above census record. I have no idea of their parents.

So i am hoping to identify their parents and any other siblings

Thanks

A possible match
HO 107 313 14/9 13
Donkins? St Thornley
Thomas Robinson 50 coal miner
Martha 40
Ralph 17 coal miner
Mary 8
Thos. 2
all born in county except Martha

You would probably need the marriage certificate to be sure of this though as Robinson is such a common name.  freebmd has a possible match and one for Mary Ann's birth too which would show Isabella's maiden name.

That is the marriage that shows up on freebmd so getting those marriage details should be the next step.  That Ralph has changed occupation so much by 1851 makes me wonder if the 1841 is the right family so to have the certificate would be really helpful.

Thanks Ladies!

I had actually seen the entry on igi but for some reason my brain didn't think to look at freebmd.  ;D

Will check it out and let you know how i go - thanks for reminding me to check out the basics

Is the marriage certificate going to give me the mothers names as well?

A lot of my family history is in South Australia and you only get fathers name of bride and bridegroom on a marriage certificate

Unfortunately English Marriage certs only have Fathers names and occupations. You have to get a Birth Cert of one of the children born post 1837 to find Mothers name.

For example to find Martha Robinsons maiden anme you could purchase son Thomas's cert, aged 2 on 1841 Census.
Looks like you are going to have to fork out a few pounds :P

Had a look for Thomas ROBINSON on free bmd aged 2yr in 1841 census but there were lots to choose from and i don't reckon mine was there - that's a bit of a pity  :(

When i get my certificate i'll let you know what it says

Thanks heaps for your help!!!!!!

:) I have received the marriage certificate of Ralph ROBINSON and Isabella SWINBURN

Ralph ROBINSON      -  age 26  -  butcher  -  father = Thomas ROBINSON
Isabella SWINBURN  -  age 23  -                -  father =  Thomas SWINBURN

they were married on 13th April 1850

so this ties in with all the information found thus far - is there anywhere i can go from here to try and expand the family further. Not really sure what i'm looking for
