Hi Hovis. I don't live near Hawarden but have visited a few times. I know Wood Lane as my grandmother was born there. Have you looked into the Sheen family as the name Daniel gets passed down throught the generations. I would be interested if you have any info about the Sheens. Shirley

John SHEEN (1874-1947), had a brother William  and there father was Daniel SHEEN (1842-1928).

This Daniel SHEEN married Mary Ann DAVIES (1851-1910) and had 5 children:
John SHEEN (1874-1947)
Ann(e) SHEEN (1875-?)
Edward Davies SHEEN (1877-1918)
Daniel SHEEN (1880-?)
Gertrude Mary SHEEN (1887-1912)
.......................................................................
Daniel SHEEN (1880-?) married Ealenor HOLLINS (1886-?) in 1902 and had 6 children:
Mary SHEEN (1902-?)
Daniel SHEEN (1904-?)
John SHEEN (1907-1907)
Edward SHEEN (1907-?)
Joseph Hollins SHEEN (1913-?)
Vida Cliffe SHEEN (1916-?)

Going back from Daniel SHEEN (1842-1928) I have the following:

His parents were:
John SHEEN (1803-1876) and Susannah DAVIES (1811-1852) who had 6 children.

His parents were:
Daniel SHEEN (1764-1840) and Elizabeth EDWARDS (1775-1843), who had 9 children.

His parents were:
John SHEEN (1733/34-1777) and Ann PARRY (?-1793), who had 4 children.

His parents were John SHEEN (?-1777) and Kathrine LEACH (?-1776), who had 4 children. T

This John SHEEN and a Daniel SHEEN (?-1722) look like they could be the sons of Daniel SHEEN (?-1722) and Jane ? (?-?) who were the first Sheens to move into the Bretton/Broughton/Hawarden area.

The family farm was right in the middle of the airfield where Airbus broughton is today

Dear all,

A book that may be of interest is "Just a Tick" by H I Donnell.

The book is the author's memoirs from his birth in Caerwys, through to his early years and raising a family in the Mancot & Hawarden area (and then on to his days with the RAF in WW2).

It's a rich source of place names (streets, farms, shops, houses etc.) plus residents at the time (1920s onwards).

It should be in local libraries, and is also on Amazon etc.

Hi it was many years ago when I was a child when I used to go with my dad.I am now aged 60 I must have been sevenish or maybe older. My dad friend was Eddie Weigh I cant recall his wifes name the farm I think was Paradise Farm as I remember there was always a cuppa on the go. My husband is an electrician and he remembers doing work for him in the dairy maybe 35 or so years ago he was also a happy cheery bloke just like my dad.My dad had a milk round around Penerlag woodlane,Ewloe Northophall and later on the new houses that were built in Aston.

It is interesting that you remember an Eddie Weigh at Paradise Farm.  It looks as though descendants of Jane Yates lived there for a very long time and even the name Edward is passed down.  The 1960s don't seem long ago to me.
