Thanks for that, wonder who the Simpson who went to New York was? I am amazed how many there were with that name.  Do we have any way of finding out when he returned?  He had a daughter in 1923 and a son in 1925, they were all born in the UK, his wife Fanny and kids didnt go with him.

Re the Carmania passage he was going to his Uncle Mr. W. Hampson 7013 South Main St., Los Angeles, Calif. He was 5'6" brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion. He was intending to be a permanent resident of the US.

Does your Simpson Chatterley have a Hampson connection? If yes, the US record would be him. Details above are from 2nd page for record.

Hi Sue

On October 27, 1923 when the U.S. Chatterley completes a declaration of intention, he is at 7313 South Main St., single and works as a hardwood floor layer.

Yes Simpson had a relative named Hampson, his father died when he was young and his mother elizabeth remarried a Hampson but Simpson kept the chatterley name.  We have here 2 Simpsons, one was on the way to New York and my direct descendant to Quebec, who later returned the year after.

Would they be cousins?

Confused....

best for you to check through the census to suss it out
as in most of the census there are two Simpsons and both in the wigan area each time
even in the 1911 there is one newly born, and one who is in the miltary and a Joseph Simpson Chatterley
and a Thomas Simson Chatterley, so easy for you the name has been carried through the years, as i say you just need to suss out who and which by what you already know
