Alexander Morrison of Golspie to NB
« on: Wednesday 23 September 09 17:48 BST (UK) »
Hi All - I found an obituary for an Alexander Morrison who died in 1884 in New Brunswick. The text states that Alexander was born (about) 1796 in Ellon, Aberdeenshire but grew up in Golspie. His father was in the employee of the Duchess of Sutherland. He emigrated to New Brunswick, Canada in 1811 with his family (whole or in part).

Would anyone have any guesses about Alexander's family, specifically, his parents?

Sincerely,

Inez

Hi

Problem is that it can cause duplication of efforts when you post the same request on more than one board unless the links to the other posts are shown

Thanks but one never knows where the information will click. I like to cover my bets, so to speak. I don't read through all of the county boards for various Morrisons and likely not alone in this practice. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Ev - Yes, I've looked at that and the 1851 NB census and there were a raft of Morrisons in that area. I think that this is the same family but cannot be certain. If you're looking for Maritime families, I came across this resource again:

http://www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies/

It's not 100% for accuracy but fairly broad in scope.

My own Morrison/Morison line has connections in Aberdeenshire AND Sutherlandshire/Caithness that I've never quite figured out. I saw this odd Morrison in the obits at the Provincial Archives of New Brusnwick and thought it might reveal some similar history.

Thank you,

Inez
