Irlam, Manchester. Help Please!
« on: Sunday 06 March 05 00:41 GMT (UK) »
My family history research has led me to try to locate a (hopefully) living relative in the UK.
My maternal Grandmother (Minnie Rimmer) was born in Southport and immigrated to Canada around 1910. She passed on in the mid 90s not quite reaching her 100th birthday. She kept in touch with a relative who I knew to be much younger than she. I believe her name was Shelagh Holt.
I have an envelope in which was posted a Christmas card in 1981. The return address is: 9 Queensway, Irlam, Manchester M30 6ND.
I have found a Queens Way a wee bit east of Irlam and the post code doesn't match...
I wonder if anyone can offer any advice? I am in Canada and at a bit of a disadvantage. Thanks!

On www.royalmail.com I have found Queensway, Irlam with a postcode M44 6ND and also a list of postcode changes showing that in 1993, the old M30 code area was divided into 2 new codes - M30 and M44.

You can find the street on www.streetmap.co.uk using the new postcode.

I wondered if you had considered The Electoral Roll?  I have only used it once for an address search, and that was in Wales, however, all voters had/have to be registered and these are public documents, available from Public Libraries, and Local History Archives.  May be worth persuing those, and/or a new tread along these lines..........

I have recently found living relatives, and it is a real thrill, I wish you luck ;)

Hi
I have only just joined and seen your post. I live in Irlam and I know where Queensway is. I have looked in our local telephone directory and there is nothing for that name under that address.
If I find anything else for you I will let you know(thats if you've not already found her)

Hi

You could try BT's Directory Enquiries,  http://www2.bt.com/edq_resnamesearch?namespace=coexistence

It may help in location.

Hi,
There are 6 S.Holt's on 192.com, 2 at M30, 2 at M29 and 1 each at M27 and M29. All have addresses and phone numbers. If you do a person search at those addresses (you're allowed 10 in a day) you should find out if one of them is a Shelagh.

See you, Lee

Hi Kevin,
I think the person you are looking for now lives at: address removed - please do not post private addresses on the public board if you do not have permission from the person living there.

Hello Sue100

It's been quite a while since I've done any research on this. How did you come up with the Surrey address? Do you think this is the Shelagh Holt who used to live at Irlam?

Thanks!

Kevin

Yes. This one definitely used to live in the Greater Manchester area. I came across this page by chance, while doing some of my own family tree research!
