Stumped in Greater Houghton/Wadsworth-Wordsworth
« on: Thursday 24 September 09 18:45 BST (UK) »
Searching for Wadsworth/Wordsworth connections

I am trying to find the parents and forebears of William WORDSWORTH, of Little Houghton. He is supposed to have a father named William of Greater Houghton…

William 2 was born around 1671. He married Sarah SENIOR, daughter of Thomas SENIOR and Elizabeth WATSON, on 1 May 1703 at All Saints, Darfield, YKS.1  He died on 30 Oct 1746 at Little Houghton, Darfield, YKS.2  He was buried on 1 Nov 1746 at All Saints, Darfield, YKS.3  His estate was probated on 3 Apr 1747 at York, YKS.4

Sarah SENIOR was born in 1680 at Edderthorpe, Darfield, YKS.  She was baptized on 9 Jan 1680/81 at All Saints, Darfield, YKS.5  She died in Jun 1767 at Little Houghton, Darfield, YKS.2  She was buried on 25 Jun 1767 at All Saints, Darfield, YKS.6

I have lots of info related to my family from here on out - but nothing about William and Sarah Senior's parents and earlier family history. For any interested parties, I have an expansive chart in PDF form that I will email. It's focus is on my direct line from William and Sarah Senior, but there is a wealth of info and names that may help someone in their search.

Any help would be massive to get me further back in time! Pointers or people who can help would be most appreciated. Can pay for UK assistance. Thanks!

Denise: Attached is my chart in pdf form - it's a large format file but lower resolution so it isn't overwhelming to computers. I did it for our family reunion a few years back - and thanks to your information, I can now update it and make it even …bigger!
If this attachment doesn't work, email me at
and I can send it that way as well.

I look forward to your additional data to go back even further with this branch of the Wordsworths/Wadsworths. My family (see straightline from William Wordsworth and Sarah Senior) changed their name to Wadsworth in the early 1800's - something I read about political or religious turmoil caused them to favor one name over the other…

Gerry

I believe Gerry it was the Free Churches who favoured the name Wadsworth, the Cof E favoured Wordsworth.
