adair family -please help
« on: Sunday 06 March 05 10:59 GMT (UK) »
I am researching my tree and find it leaves dumfries and galloway and crosses to ireland with my great great grandfather james adair and his wife isabella christie. They were both born in 1813 in what i think is cloghskilt or closekilt as it is spelled on another certificate. they were married there and had ten kids. some i assume born in ireland and others born in portwilliam dumfries and galloway. Does anyone know of this place -i can't find it and any sites i could search for further info. thanks.

Port William is a small coastal town about 25 miles South East of Stranraer and about 15 miles South of Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway.
You might have more luck in the Scottish section of this website.

Cloughskilt. This is probably Cloughskelt, Co. Down in the Barony of Upper Iveagh (Lower Part), Civil parish - Drumgooland and Poor Law Union - Banbridge.
