1901 census - Butchers Lane, Waterford COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 27 September 09 09:14 BST (UK) »
Hi, Can anyone help me with a look up?
I now have an address for 1901 from a marriage certificate dated Oct 1901
The folk I am looking for are Walter Cullen [possibly Cullin] and family including William who was of 'full age' when he married, i belive he was 22.
Somewhere there should be a Mary Coughlin possibly with her family as well if I am lucky.
I don't have a number, just Butcher's Lane, Waterford [No 3 urban, Waterford]

many thanks for any help

the full 1901 census is due to be added to the National Archives website by early next year - see : http://census.nationalarchives.ie/about/futureplans.html

The 1911 listing shows a Cullen family (husband William age 32 & Mary plus two children) at #15 Butchers Lane

see : http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Waterford/Waterford_No__3_Urban/Butcher_Lane/673003/

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I had found the family  on 1911, they didn't move very far. I was sort of aware of the 1901 being available at the end of this year but I was hoping that some kind soul could give me a list of who was in the household in 1901 as I have no idea of Walter's wife's name and would like to try and find a marriage certificate for Walter [ Christmas present idea for family] as know one has the foggiest idea past their father.

I am finding the Familysearch pilot  site very useful for helping me find the relevant info so I can order the certifiactes.

Thnaks fpr your help again

if you know the exact address you can order a copy of the census from the National archives for a small fee - I think about €2.50

It was mentioned in a discussion here on rootschat somewhere - I'll see if I can find the link

Unfortunatly the certificate just says Butchers Lane - no number, I suspect they will want a number as well

but thank you for the thought

found the link : http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy/censusrtns.html (see the link at the bottom of the page)

you dont need a house number, just the surname, DED & street should be enough.

edit : found the link to the previous rootschat discussion on this - http://www.rootschat.com/links/076b/

I have a certificate which shows the birth of a Walter Maddox on the 14th Jan 1900. Father Martin Maddox and mother Ellen Cullen living in butrchers lane.

I believe her name is mary Ellen Cullen.

Does that mean anything to you?

Hi

The surname Maddox does not mean much to me, according to the 1901 and 11 census there were maddix and maddocks families living in butchers lane.
Both Mary and Ellen's I have in the family but I can't find one old enough to be the mother of Walter, sorry for the negative answer, but thanks for the thought. Happy New year and Happy hunting
