Rickshaw
« on: Sunday 27 September 09 12:15 BST (UK) »
Dear All,

Rootschatters have speculated that this photograph may have been taken c.1900-1905 in Durban. Would any of the S Africa specialists have a perspective to add?

The photo features unidentified family members for whom we are trying to piece a story together.

Very many thanks,
WC

Hi there,
I have just had tea with my mum(82) and aunt(83) who are born and bred in Durban. They have not seen the picture but have said that the market rickshas  did not have the horns in the headress and were often shabbily dressed. My aunt said they caught the ricksha every week to market in the 1920's. Sorry cant help you more - our local expert has had a look and also cannot confirm that it is Durban but has said the lady's dress is typical of the early 1900's.
Take care
Ruth
