Hi Kit,

I think you have the correct marriage for Christian, I have found the correct one for Margaret, I think.

James Laverock married Margaret Cockburn 23 May 1735 in Wemyss, Fife (Extracted record on IGI)

They had the following children, all extracted records on IGI,

Peter Laverock b 20 Oct 1737 bap 23 Oct 1737 Wemyss, Fife
James Laverock b 14 Jan 1739 bap 21 Jan 1739 Wemyss, Fife
William Laverock b 03 Jan 1741 bap 04 Jan 1741 Wemyss, Fife

Tom
Scotland - Buchanan, Thomson, Pat(t)erson, Stewart, Ritchie, Tracey
Ireland - Tracey, Conroy, Pat(t)erson.

Many thanks to all who have responded.  Thanks to Clare for the link and to Tom for looking up the IGI (didn't think to do that!).  I'm sure I'll be back again soon with more queries and hope you'll all be kind enough to help once more.  Kit

Christian was a very popular/common name - just as popular as Margaret, Janet etc.
I believe it was inter-changeable with Christina but in my own personal research, it's either been one or the other.

I have found lots of them using it interchangeably. Older records tend to have Christian and later ones tend to have Christine/a. I don't think it's interchangeable with Margaret though.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
