Seems like my experience with ancestry replies is not unique! You get the feeling that they just have standard replies on their computers, and just choose the one that seems most appropriate when they reply to you. I felt that the person (or machine?) who answered my query about the LMA collection had no idea what my problem was, but just picked out a ready-made answer labelled LMA which they used for all queries on that topic - and which completely ignored the question I asked.
In your case I bet they just picked the standard reply for 'Marriage Index' or whatever, and sent that. My ancestry sub has just come up for renewal, but I've decided this time to go with findmypast, with its 1911 option, for 6 months. Not sure whether their helpdesk is any better, but I'll no doubt find out.
