Hello everybody,

My great grandfather's brother, David Bell was born 1864 in Mouswald, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

David was an assistant teacher in the headmaster's department at Lockerbie Public School in 1883.

The next mention of David was him registering his younger brother's death at Birkenhead, Cheshire, England; in June 1888.

In the Dumfries and Galloway Standard, David's death was reported on the 13th June 1894
that he had died at Bethlehem, Orange Free State.

David was the fourth son of the late Mr J.J Bell, teacher at Crocketford near Dumfries.

David was only 29 years of age at his death.

Was David married whilst in Bethlehem and was he still a teacher?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Charles

Hi there, his death notice is listed in the free state archives - there may be one of our members who can look it up for you. Alternatively you could order the death notice from EGGSA - see the stickys at the top of the board.

Hi Ruth,

Thanks for the quick reply and for the link for 'NAAIRS'

I have looked at the RSA search option and unfortunately my David Bell wasn't there, however, there were 25 other David Bell's (the dates given for these dont fit with my dates).

I then tried the 'Free State Archive Repository' search which gave 0 result.

It would be nice if one of your members could also have a look for me.

Again, thanks for your help.

Regards

Hi Ruth,

For your fantastic and very efficient help, I have today ordered on-line with eGSSA, David's death certificate.

When ordering on-line with eGSSA, I also have added as a comment your PM content of David been buried at 'Mullerstraat Begraafplass'.

eGSSA have sent me an invoice, here's hoping it wont take too long.

I am very appreciative for your help and quick response.

Kind regards

Charles

Hi Delva,

Thanks for the offer, but Ruth (rutti tutti) has given me the reference numbers for the death certificate.

I have already ordered the certificate from eGSSA.

Thanks for the kind thought.

Hi Ruth,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

I received my information for David Bell on the 24th October.
A lot quicker than expected!

There are three pages of David's will and all the information it gives fits in just perfect with what I expected, but unfortunately David wasn't married.

So, thanks for all your help.

Regards
