Brown Family
« on: Monday 07 March 05 07:50 GMT (UK) »
My gt grandmother, Eunice Brown, was born in Doulas, 2/4/1881.  Her father (John Brown, born about 1825 if the census is correct!) was a brewer at the Castle Hill Brewery, Onchan and on the 1881 census it states that he employed 3 men.  I understand that the brewery no longer exists, but I would be interested in any info on it.  I would also be interested on any info on the Brown family (Johns wife was Mary Ann Knipton).
Thanks
Laura

Thanks Nicky,

I expected my John Brown to be born on the Isle of Man...
Maybe he moved there for the brewery?

Thanks again

The Cstle Hill brewery is well covered in 'A time of Manx Cheer' by Tim Crumplin + Roger Rawcliffe isbn 1-873120-54-0 (shold be available from shop at manx museum £10 or so - enquiries@mnh.gov.im) but Brown was only there a few years bought it from Charles Udall then sold 1882'sh
any thing with a Manx Connection
