Westoning Parish records - HINDES
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 15:25 BST (UK) »
Please does anyone have access to Westoning parish records

I have a John Hindes  born abt 1800 Westoning Bedfordshire

I have him on 1841 with a Susan I am assuming is his wife as she is same sort of age and 3 children Thomas Henrey and Martha.  In 1851 he is down as a widower
in 1861 he is remarried to Sarah Bunyan his sons sister in law who is 21 years his junior they went on to have 3 more children  Elizabeth - Martha and Joseph
John died in 1862.

I am looking to find details of his parentage and his first marriage to susan also interested in finding out if there are any other children  than those mentioned.

Teresa

Just checking your dates -
he remarried in 1861
went on to have 3 more children
dies in 1862

triplets?

Also if you have his fathers name and occupation from his second marriage cert it will help anyone who is able to do any parish record look up.

IGI has chr of Martha Hinds 30 March 1835 Westoning, parents John and MARTHA Martindale...  I wonder if this is the family and Susan isnt the childrens mum, or is a differetn family in the village.
Also Thomas 18 Jn 1822 and Henry 27 Nov 1830 - all same parents.
They are submitted entries though, so who knows?

well I GI could be correct but I have learned to be very wary of it,  so need to prove it really - I suppose susan could have been a sister  I hate not knowing lol

Westoning baptisms and marriages up to 1812 have been extracted onto the IGI, so are reliable. There are three Hindes' baptisms 1807-12, all children of Richard and Elizabeth. The only marriage of a Richard Hindes and Elizabeth in Beds was in Wootton in 1795, so it's possible these were the same couple. The IGI shows they baptised two children in Wootton as well. But no John. But these baptisms were in 1796 and 1802, so on the face of it perhaps John was actually born in Wootton.

The IGI is perfectly reliable so long as you are looking at extracted entries. Member submissions are pot luck.

There are burials in Westoning of Richard Hindes age 68 on 28 March 1831: Richard Hindes age 21 on 22 May 1832 (he was baptised in 1810); and Elizabeth Hindes age 82 on 24 Dec 1849. These are the only Hindes burials in Westoning up to 1852, so it seems as though Richard and Elizabeth were the Wootton couple

Thank you David I don't have Richard and Elizabeth connected to the tree im doing yet but given the size of the place i expect they do somehow - I shall persevere with the pieces of the puzzle.  I am thinking a marriage cert may be needed to help sigh more pennies
