Westoning Parish records - HINDES

Richard and Elizabeth appear to have been the only Hindes family in Westoning at that time, so there's every chance they're the parents of John. But the absence of a baptism for John is a problem, but hopefully his second marriage will confirm his father.

The IGI shows they baptised two children in Wootton as well. But no John.

Hello David;  Been looking at the Wootton baptism transcript today,

Richard & Elizabeth HINDE baptised son John on 2 Sep 1798 & daughter Susan on 21 Feb 1800. The IGI only found you the children named HINDES, who were William 6/10/1796 & Joseph 30/12/1802. The IGI has the 2 HINDE baptisms, why their search process doesn't associate HINDE with HINDES is a beyond me, it does link HINE with HINDES - needs another 57 varieties I expect.

The sister Susan is not who is on the 1841 census with John, more on that later.

Richard Hindes married Elizabeth Hickman at Wooton on 1 Oct 1795 by licence. The marriage licence entry says they were both over 21, both of Wootton & that Rob Simmons, a cooper from Bedford stood surety.

Two other set of HINDES parents were baptising children in Wootton at that time.

John & Martha Hindes baptised
  Sally on 22 Mar 1805,  nb. this was written above a name struck through
  Charlotte on 27 Dec 1805
  John on 9 Jan 1809
  Frederick on 18 Sept 1810, private - nb. interlined in same hand
  ** he was buried on 30 Dec 1810

Joseph & Eliz baptised
  William on 17 Apr 1805  & was buried 17 Dec 1807
  John on 27 Dec 1806
  Richard on 28 Aug 1808
  Susan on 7 Feb 1811

John Hindes married Martha Neal on 14 Jun 1805 by licence
Both were age 21, John was down as a yeoman of Wootton; & John Lineham, yeoman of Kempston stood surety

Joseph Hindes married Eliz Estwick on 5 Sept 1805

Looking at the common childrens' names I suspect that Richard, John  & Joseph Hindes are from same family but have not checked that out.

Susannah Hindes married James Sealous ? of Flitwick on 12 Oct 1819

She may well be John's sister ? 

witness William Hindes & Joseph Chew (he appears on many marriages so most likely the parish clerk)

? Sealous is how it lookes on the entry, but James signed it as Sellis
